SHILLONG: The Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC) Shillong under the aegis of Directorate of Plant Protection Quarantine & Storage, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has conducted a Season Long Training Programme (SLTP) on IPM of Paddy crop in Shillong since February 2.
The function was presided over by Dr. B.S. Phogat, Additional Plant Protection Adviser, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare. The programme stemmed from a report by the Meghalaya Government on recent and repeated outbreak of rice swarming caterpillar (a serious insect pest of Paddy crop) from pockets of Meghalaya bordering Assam. Ministry of Agriculture, has selected Meghalaya, one among such 4 states all over India, to conduct such kind of training to mitigate the issues of recent pests outbreak in any agricultural crops.
