SHILLONG: Meghalaya will finally have its own Assembly complex with construction of the much awaited Assembly building slated to begin this year.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma told reporters on Tuesday that since the Centre has not allocated any fund, the State Government will dole out the requisite fund to start the construction work this year itself.
“The State hopes to provide Rs 75 crore for construction of the Assembly Secretariat and the Chamber”, the chief minister said.
Recently, nine firms had made presentations on the design of the new Assembly and out of these one will be selected, he said, adding that selection of the firm was on.
The chief minister also announced the government’s plans to construct a miniature museum both at the old Assembly site at Police Bazar and at Mawdiangdiang, the place where the new Assembly would come up.
It was on January 9, 2001 that the old heritage Assembly at Police Bazar was gutted by fire.
