NONGPOH: More than 200 trucks, which were carrying coal above the permissible limit fixed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), plying on NH-6 were apprehended on Sunday, police said.
Ri Bhoi police chief Ramesh Singh said the raid was conducted after the police received several complaints of trucks illegally transporting coal. The trucks also avoided the integrated check gate at 13th Mile in Byrnihat.
“More than 200 trucks parked near the petrol pump and NH-6 were apprehended by the police and the district magistrate. The vehicles also included those from the integrated check gate. They were violating the NGT order,” Singh said, adding that an FIR was filed and a case was registered against the truck owners and drivers.
Sources said some of these overloaded trucks do not have challans.
