SHILLONG: A second inquiry is being carried out into the alleged harassment of the orderly peon by the Director of Soil and Water Conservation, D. Langstieh.
When the first committee headed by A.D Blah from the Water Resources Department as the chairperson and V. Papang from the Soil and Water Conservation Department and S. Kharpuli as members had submitted the report recently, the department realised that an independent member was not appointed in the Committee.
The guideline stipulates that a representative from the NGO should be included in the Committee.
Principal Secretary in charge of the department R.M Mishra said in this context, Sr Judith Shadap was appointed as representative of the NGO recently.
He said after the new member was inducted, the Committee is again probing the matter and the report will be submitted in due course of time.
It was on February 3 that the Government appointed the three-member committee comprising all women officers.
The peon had alleged that Langstieh tasked her with non-official work and insisted she stayed at his residence at night. When she refused, he withheld her salary and later transferred her to Byrnihat.
With the delay in her re-transfer, the peon had filed a case in the High Court of Meghalaya in March.
Following this, the Director revoked her earlier transfer order to Byrnihat and hence the Court disposed of the case.
Earlier, denying allegations of harassment, Langstieh had said during the job interview, all candidates were informed about the nature of duty of an orderly peon and that the complainant had also readily agreed.
