SHILLONG: The consultations with the local transporters’ associations for the operation of the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Tura will begin shortly. The much awaited ISBT at Tura has been completed a long time back but so far, the ISBT is not functional since discussions with the local transporters are yet to take place.
“We will have discussions soon to ensure that the ISBT becomes operational at the earliest,” West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Pravin Bakshi said.
Gestion in the overcrowded Tura town is set to be reduced to a large extent with the State’s first interstate bus terminus (ISBT) finally complete on the outskirts of the town.
The government would discuss about feeder services as the ISBT is located away from Tura and vehicles would be required to ferry passengers to and fro the ISBT. In addition, some small shops would also come up at the ISBT to cater to the passengers.
The Central government had sanctioned Rs.45 crores for the project which covered 90 per cent of the total cost, while the NBCC bore the remaining 10 per cent.
The ISBT would accommodate 50 buses plying to and from all corners of the State to Tura.
