Govt to sign pact for power supply in rural areas

SHILLONG: The State Government will soon sign a tripartite agreement for rural electrification.
The agreement will be signed by the State, Rural Electrification Corporation and Meghalaya Non Conventional and Rural Energy Development Agency.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana, rural households have got electricity and those living in inaccessible areas will also benefit.
The state will have to develop off-grid solar power systems not only in houses but also for street lights at a funding pattern of 85:15, he said.
Anatomy Act cleared
The State Cabinet has enacted Anatomy Act under which unclaimed bodies of deceased persons can be supplied to medical colleges in the State.
Speaking to media persons after the cabinet meeting, Minister In charge, Health and Family Welfare, Roshan Warjri said that the act is necessary for supply of unclaimed bodies of deceased persons and for donation bodies if any to the medical college and institutions in the State.
Stating the Act is enforced in many states in the country, Warjri added that the Act is necessary in Meghalaya since the state has NEIGRIHMS which is a medical institute.
“It will help the MBBS students and it will be legislated in the next session of the Assembly,” Warjri said.
Cabinet nod to draft vendors’ Act
The Cabinet has approved the draft rules for the Meghalaya Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014.
Speaking to media persons after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said vending committees are to be constituted under the Act.
Sangma said the Government had taken certain measures based on court orders and those are included in the rules.
