20 kg gold seized in Guwahati railway station

Guwahati: Government Railway Police on Friday seized twenty (20) kilograms of gold from four passengers traveling in New Delhi-bound Tripura Sundari Express during a checking of the train in Guwahati Railway Station.

The four apprehended passengers including a woman boarded the train at Badarpur station in South Assam.

The train which originates at Agartala in Tripura was travelling to New Delhi. Police informed that the gold which is suspected to have been smuggled from Myanmar, was being taken to New Delhi. The market value of the seized gold was estimated at about Rs six crore.

It may be mentioned that about 50 kilograms of smuggled gold have been recovered by police in Guwahati station during the last four months from various passengers travelling out of the region in different trains.
