SHILLONG: The West Jaintia Hills District Sericulture Officer has said the allegations that she threatened workers are false.
Ann Passah, who allegedly threatened sericulture workers and forced them to sign on a blank paper after the wage scam was exposed by an RTI reply, said the comments were made to tarnish her reputation.
TUR member Angela Rangad had claimed that the sericulture workers were allegedly threatened by Passah. The Sericulture muster roll workers and TUR had recently organised a public hearing on the documents which they received after an RTI reply revealed anomalies in the distribution of wages. Following the large-scale anomalies in wage distribution, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said recently that the government would act tough against the corrupt officials.
Apart from the anomaly in wage distribution, the RTI also revealed that lakhs of rupees were drawn against the names of workers for years even when they did not work and payments were made to ghost workers.
