SHILLONG: After the resignation of BJP leader from Tura, Bernard Marak, another party leader from North Garo Hills, Bachu Ch Marak has quit the party on Monday evening protesting against the recent notification of the Centre on cattle slaughter.
Earlier, National Spokesperson of BJP Nalin Kohli and in charge Meghalaya had warned action against the move of Bachu and Bernard to organise a beef festival in Tura on June 10 to celebrate three years of Modi Government.
Stating that he cannot compromise on the sentiments of the Garos, Bachu said that beef eating is part of Garo culture and tradition and added that BJP should not impose non-secular ideology on the people of Garo Hills.
