Marvelene’s rape case

SHILLONG: There is no evidence to prove that Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh’s son, who is the owner of Marvelene’s Inn, was involved in the sex racket, East Khasi Hills police said.
East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak told The Shillong Times on Monday that police had tried to ascertain if the hotel’s owner was involved in the racket. Instead, police got evidence against the manager, Edmund Kharir, was doing the illegal activities without the knowledge of the owner.
Police said they seized the phone of the manager and necessary analysis was also done and it transpired that not even a single call was made to the owner of the hotel.
Recently, police filed a charge sheet against Kharir and a waiter of the guest house, Usha Deb Barman.
Marak, however, said the police investigation is still on into the matter.
Curiously, earlier, the CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing who was pursuing the case said that the visiting card of the guest house had the phone number of the Home Minister’s wife, which reveals that she is running the hotel. However, Lyngdoh’s son had earlier claimed that he was the proprietor.
So far, 11 cases have been registered in the entire infamous case of the sex racket in which a minor girl was raped by many people.
The infamous episode even led to the arrest of Mawhati MLA Julius Dorphang who was arrested for raping the minor.
Many people have been arrested in this connection while police is looking for more people who had raped the girl.
Marak added that police so far has filed charge-sheets in four cases.
