Byrnihat railway work halted

SHILLONG: The railway project work at Byrnihat has been temporarily stopped following the law and order problems, said Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner C.P Gotmare on Sunday.
When contacted, Gotmare said, “It is not officially stopped but since the machine used for the construction was burnt, work has been hindered and labourers got scared.”
He stressed on the fact that work has not been stopped officially but discontinued due to the prevailing law and order situation.
On the resumption of work, Gotmare said, “I will check with the railways staff in this matter as it depends on them.”
He added that as per the assessment from the Northeast Frontier Railways, the total monetary loss is Rs 72-75 lakh.
The Ri Bhoi district administration has re-imposed Section 144 of the CrPC from Saturday from 6 pm-6am.
