SHILLONG: Director of Higher and Technical Education Ram Singh said on Tuesday there is a need for revamping the education system to move away from convention in the age of technology.
Speaking at the valedictory function of the seven-day national workshop on Research Methodology at Shillong College, Singh said research activities should not be confined only to teachers.
He pitched for hands-on learning for the growth of students’ minds and the desire to know far and beyond the subject and personality development.
He also pointed to the technological advancements taking place where “lectures are being replaced by smart classes and added that keeping this in mind there is a need for revamping the education system to move away from convention”.
According to Singh, vocational education is needed as it ensures livelihood.
“Teachers have to put in more efforts and they must not only impart knowledge and skill but also create aptitude and attitude among the students,” said Singh.
Congratulating the college on its diamond jubilee celebrations, he called for more innovative practices that would contribute to society.
The national workshop began on June 7 and 35 teachers from different colleges of the State participated.
Shillong College released its magazine ‘The Lamp’ on the occasion.
