SHILLONG: The CJM court here on Tuesday issued a fresh ‘arrest warrant’ against the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) chairman Champion R. Sangma in connection with an assault case of 2009.

Responding to a petition filed by Sangma’s wife Enrita N. Marak, the court also cancelled a non-bailable arrest warrant issued against her in this connection.

Sangma had allegedly slapped a prominent city businessman when he was serving as a Deputy Superintendent of Police here. A case was registered against the former cop.

As per Champion’s recorded statement the businessman allegedly hurled verbal abuses at a particular community, sources said adding that another individual – Jimmy CN Sangma- was also involved in the case.

Sources said several summons were issued to the former police official in the past.

The court had also issued summons to Marak and when she failed to appear before the court, a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against her.

Her advocate Sujit Dey informed that the lady filed a petition before the court asking the same to cancel the non-bailable arrest warrant.

The petition said, “That the petitioner has committed no offence and is not an accused in the said case, neither the petitioner has any concern with the crime of G.R. 84 (S) 2009.”

The CJM court finally cancelled the arrest warrant.
