3-month deadline for Baghmara court

SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya on Friday asked the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) in Baghmara to expedite the trial of GNLA chairman Champion Sangma and complete the same within three months.
Judge S.R Sen in his order also said the petitioner is at liberty to move the bail application before ADC, Baghmara, who may consider the same in accordance with law.
Earlier, counsel S. Dey on behalf of the applicant (Sangma) submitted that the application was moved against Baghmara police station case of 2011.The counsel said the case was charge-sheeted but till date, the trial has not begun.
The chairman of GNLA was granted bail by a lower court in February, more than four years after his arrest from an area near Indo-Bangladesh border on July 30, 2012.
