SHILLONG: After the Cabinet on Thursday recommended withdrawal of Administrator’s Rule in the GHADC, former chairman of the Council and expelled NPP MDC, Boston Marak, who is set to become the next CEM, claimed the support of 16 members in the House of 29.
Marak said his supporters include Congress (5), GNC (2) and Independent (8) MDCs.
He hoped that the Governor will fix the date for the election of CEM this week.
It was on March 31 that the Executive Committee (EC) led by NPP leader Denang Sangma collapsed after the resignation of Sangma.
Boston played a role in ousting the NPP-led EC as he, being the chairman and NPP member, allowed a no confidence motion moved by the Opposition against his own leader.
The no confidence motion was brought after the House passed the controversial Garo Customary Bill amid protests.
Before the no confidence motion was to be taken up, the CEM resigned on March 31.
Later, the Governor approved Administrator’s Rule after a recommendation in this regard from the Government since the Council budget was not passed.
