SHILLONG: The farming community of Mawkynriew area has urged the State Government to regulate the prices of agricultural products in Meghalaya.
Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, Sordar of Jongsha, Olet Kharsahnoh, said the farmers are unable to derive profit from their produce as many a time the cost of production turns out to be more than the selling price.
Citing an example, he claimed that bigger sized potatoes are being sold at Rs 10 per kg in the State whereas the investment made goes up to Rs 15/kg.
He also said that the State Government is not extending much benefit to farmers under the Mission Organic.
Kharsahnoh said the government is not supplying organic fertilisers due to which the farmers are forced to buy the products at an expensive rate from the market.
