Encroachment of  agri  land continues

 NONGSTOIN: An uneasy calm prevails in Umtap village over encroachment of agricultural land of Khasi residents by some Nepalese villagers.

The Village Administrative Organization of Langpih Circle (VAOLC) will hold a village-level meeting at Mawlan-A and Mawsikar of West Khasi Hills district shortly to discuss the encroachment issue.

Informing this, T Nonglang, president, VAOLC, said the Nepalese residents of Umtap village had been encroaching the agricultural land of the Khasi villagers.

Recently four people were injured in a clash between some Nepalese and Khasi residents of Umtap village, Nonglang, who is also the headman of Mawsikar village, said.

In this connection one public meeting will be held at Mawlan-A on Friday and another at Mawsikar village on Saturday.

Recently a meeting was held between the representatives of the two communities in the presence of officer-in-charge of Langpih police outpost.

The meeting discussed attack on three Khasi villagers of Umtap on September 22.
