TURA: Mohan Miah had been an unnamed patient at Tura civil hospital for nearly two years till he suddenly started recollecting his life in Bangladesh a few weeks ago.
The 40-year-old man with mental disorder was found loitering on the streets here and police brought him to the hospital on July 1, 2015.
After medical examinations, doctors found that he was suffering from Tic Disorder and Schizophrenia.
He was placed under treatment in the psychiatry wing where Dr Bollen S. Sangma and his team kept a constant vigil on him. The medical team’s efforts finally bore fruit and the patient miraculously regained his senses. He revealed that his name is Mohan Miah and he is 40. He also told them that he is a resident of Kalimpur village in Bangladesh’s Kishorganj district.
This was brought to the notice of the district legal services authority in Tura and efforts were made to trace his family. A local trader was able to get in touch with a Bangladeshi trader apprising him of the man’s situation.
The Bangladeshi trader reached out to Miah’s family and on June 12, a relative, Humayun Kabir Harun, arrived in Garo Hills to take him back.
Miah was released from the hospital and handed over to Humayun on June 14. With the help and support of the legal authority, both were escorted by Meghalaya Police to the international border for deportation to Bangladesh where Miah was reunited with his families.
The efforts of the team at Tura civil hospital, particularly the Psychiatry unit, have been lauded by all.
