SHILLONG: Tura MP and NPP National President Conrad Sangma has reiterated that talks are on with ministers and legislators who are willing to join the party before the Assembly elections next year.
Sangma, however, did not divulge details on Monday and only said “it is too early” to comment on the matter.
Media reports had earlier said those who would join NPP include Cabinet ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar, besides his brother Ngaitlang Dhar. The legislators are yet to clear the air on their decision.
Almost all the parties in the state, including NCP, BJP and NPP, have claimed that many sitting MLAs and ministers would desert the Congress to join their respective parties before the state goes to elections early next year.
Hundreds join NPP in Mawkynrew
Hundreds of supporters of UDP, Congress, KHNAM and HSPDP, among others, joined NPP in a meeting held at Jongksha village under Mawkynrew constituency in East Khasi Hills on Saturday.
In a statement issued here on Monday, NPP said the members joined the party in presence of Mawkynrew Block president Harkin Warjri and secretary Olet Kharsahnoh.
W. Kharlukhi, state president of NPP, said the aim of the party is to preserve the indigenous identity of the people.
