TURA: Villagers of Jetragre, Darengre, Rongasigre, Kamagre and others all under Chokpot police station in South Garo Hills, along with the Chokpot Area Development Committee and the Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Chokpot Unit, have urged the PWD Department to withdraw the FIR it had filed against a particular contractor.

The contractor in question is currently engaged in the construction of the 17-kilometer-long road from Chokpot to Jetragre village. The FIR was filed by the department after it had directed by higher authorities in Shillong who said that shoddy work had been done on the road by the contractor.

Stating that the FIR against the contractor would hamper the smooth completion of the road project, the villagers have urged the department to withdraw the same.

“Currently the road project is progressing smoothly at a good pace. The contractor has also assured to complete the remaining work without stoppage. We appeal to the department to kindly withdraw the FIR so that work can proceed without any hindrance,” the people said in a statement.
