TURA: The members of the District Congress Committee (DCC) and Tura City Congress Committee(TCC) organised a ‘Run for Peace – The Peace Marathon’ here on Monday in Tura to observe the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, which is also observed as the Children’s Day.
As many as 400 people from all walks of life gathered at Chandmary playground to take part in the marathon.
Oldest participant to complete the race was 74-year-old Campbell B.Sangma of Upper Chandamry, Tura who completed the race with the record timing of 35minutes.
Sangma had represented Assam at the Olympic Cross Country Marathon Race in 1960.
Youngest participant to complete the race was 7-year-old boy from Garo Union School, Tura
The cash prizes of Rs.5000/-, Rs.4000/- and Rs.3000/- respectively for first, second and thrid along with the trophies were handed over by the chief guest of the function Zenith M.Sangma, co-Chairman, State Planning Board.
