SHILLONG: The state government is soon going to expand the congested Nongthymmai road junction in the city under its road junction improvement programme. The junction at Nongthymmai happens to be one of the most congested ones in the city that has witnessed burgeoning number of vehicles on the road of late.

An official in the state Urban Affairs Department informed that the land acquisition for expansion of the junction at Nongthymmai had been started and hoped that the actual work on the project would begin by the end of this year.  The official said that once completed, the expanded road junction would be of great help in reducing omnipresent traffic congestion in the area.

The state government recently completed the expansion of the busy road junction at Laitumkhrah. The government also plans to expand road junctions at Polo and Motphran, which have become over congested in recent times.
