SHILLONG: Precarious cracks have shown on Umiam hydro-electricity dam along the National Highway 40 that connects Guwahati to Shillong creating alarm.

Officials from Meghalaya Electricity Corporation Limited (MeECL) have, however, allayed fear of any danger to the dam saying that only the pavement along the highway on the dam was damaged a couple of days back after two night buses met with an accident on the spot.

They asserted that there was no danger to the dam’s structure at all and the damaged portion of the pavement wild be repaired soon.
