Ri-Bhoi body raises irregularity in police appointment

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Tuesday announced that the government would soon formulate a district-wise reservation policy to ensure equal opportunities in employment for each district of the State.

The Chief Minister made this announcement when a delegation of Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) called on him in connection with alleged disparity while filling up posts in the 6th battalion of the Meghalaya Police.

The RBYF raked up the issue of disparity saying only 18 out of 200 aspirants from Ri-Bhoi district were selected.

Dr Sangma admitted that the police department had committed several “mistakes” with regards to the appointment.

The RBYF urged the Chief Minister to reconsider the decision.

Terming the Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh as a ‘common enemy’ of the people of Ri Bhoi district, the union alleged that Lyngdoh played a crucial role in the recruitment process. “50 candidates were selected from Sohiong constituency which is represented by Lyngdoh”, the RBYF said.
