SHILLONG: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Meghalaya has issued one-week deadline for the State Government to recommend for a CBI inquiry into the activities of the IAS officer HM Shangpliang.
A delegation of BJYM on Friday met the Chief Secretary, Y Tsering and asked the Government to suspend the officer for “breaching service rules” by attending a political meeting.
The BJYM said that CBI inquiry must be instituted on the implementation of various schemes under HM Shangpliang’s department since he might have misappropriated Government funds for other purposes.
A video clip circulated recently showed the IAS officer taking part in a Congress meeting at Lawbah in Mawsynram where he was reportedly heard praising the party.
Shangpliang holds the posts of Secretary, GAD, Director, Social Welfare, Secretary to the Chief Adviser to the Government and Mission Director, National Health Mission and Megha Health Insurance Scheme.
BJYM President, Egenstar Kurkalang alleged that the Bureaucrat was misusing his power by trying to influence people for his narrow political mileage and mobilising public support for the political party of his choice.
During the meeting, Chief Secretary told the delegation that the matter would be looked upon by the Government and necessary follow-up action would be taken.
The official is yet to resign from his posts though he is allegedly preparing to contest the next Assembly election on Congress ticket.
“If the Government does not fulfil our demands, we will take other recourse,” he said.
