SHILLONG: Residents of Agia, Madipara, Phulbari and Tura road in West Garo Hills have raised concerns against smuggling of cattle through the area.
In a letter addressed to the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, the residents of the area on Sunday said that cattle are being regularly transported through the road in the area.
According to the complaint, some youths of Phulbari with the support of NGOs have also resorted to collection of money from cattle smugglers.
“Youths are abandoning their studies to make easy money through cattle smuggling and there is a need to check this trend,” said a resident of Phulbari, Sengkttnbal Ch Sangma, who also sought the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner and the police in this regard.
