SHILLONG: District Council Affairs Minister and senior Congress leader Prestone Tynsong said on Tuesday the party securing power in the GHADC will be a positive signal for the upcoming Assembly election but NPP ruled out any such impact.
“It will be a moral boost for the Congress and there will be an impact in the Assembly polls,” Tynsong said.
However, NPP president Conrad Sangma said the MDCs left the ruling alliance and supported the Congress for their personal gain.
“They shifted allegiance against the will of the people,” he said.
He also made it clear that none of the NPP MDCs voted for Boston Marak during the election to the post of CEM on Tuesday.
Besides securing 16 votes, Boston also got one more vote from the group led by NPP.
12 months’ salary, royalty share pending
While wishing the Executive Committee led by Boston all the best, Conrad hoped that with the Congress-led EC in power in the GHADC, the State Government would be able to clear the pending salary of the staff as well as the royalty share.
“Since we were in power, the State Government had delayed in royalty share and now we hope that the government will do the needful,” Conrad said.
