Kohima, Jul 21 (UNI) There was hours-long discussion between two groups of the Naga Peoples Front (NPF) with the supporters of outgoing Chief Minister Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu and present Chief Minister T R Zeliang in the floor of the Nagaland Assembly today with allegations and counter allegations.
Chief Minister T R Zeliang moved the Motion of Confidence, which was initiated by supporters of Dr Shurhozelie, former minister and former Assembly Speaker Chotisuh Sazo, who spoke about the anti-defection law and on the constitution of the NPF, which may attracted disqualification of the Assembly members.
He also expressed grief that the present Twelfth Nagaland Legislative Assembly most turbulent Assembly, which has seen defections of the NPF members several times and T R Zeliang is the fourth Chief Minister of the 12th Assembly. The others took part in the discussion are Yitachu, Kuzholuzo Nienu, Tongpang Konyak, C L John and P Longon, who said about the constitution of the NPF party and the rules of disqualification under anti-defection law.
In the reply of the discussions, the leader of the House T R Zeliang said in the democracy, the majority must rule and he has support of the majority of the legislators in the Assembly, for which the Governor gave him oath of the Chief Minister. On the Whip, he said to issue a Whip to the NPF members, he must be authorised by the Chief Minister and to issue the Whip was given by himself. Those who will defy the Whip will be subjected to be disqualified from the NPF party.
Accordingly, during the voting all the 47 NPF, BJP and Independent members cast their votes in favour of Zeliang, while eleven NPF members, who supported Dr Shurhozelie, cast their votes against Zeliang, who are likely to face disqualification.
After winning the Confidence Motion in the floor of the Assembly, Mr Zeliang will constitute his Ministry within few days, his supporters said. UNI
