SHILLONG: The proposal for the overlay of the dilapidated Umsning road is likely to be approved shortly but work will not start till the rain stops.
An official from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) said the file for the proposal at the NHAI headquarters is nearing the final stage.
Sources said it will be approved in two to three weeks. However, work will start only after monsoon  and patchwork for potholes has started, officials said.
Poor drainage system on the existing road is a major concern and the implementing agency rued that it does temporary repair work and it just washes away after a few spells of rain.
