SHILLONG: The Ri Bhoi district administration has approached its counterpart in West Karbi Anglong in Assam to ensure that construction work of an eri-farming building at Madan Umwang village is not disturbed.
The move comes after Assam Police had recently stopped construction of the Union government-sanctioned project under Block II in the village in Ri Bhoi.
Speaking to The Shillong Times here on Monday, Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Chinmay Gotmare said according to the Supreme Court ruling, no development work in the area should be disturbed. He said the Assam authorities could approach the Ri Bhoi administration if they wanted certain procedures to be fulfilled but the project should not be disturbed. The West Karbi Anglong district SP has also assured cooperation. “We will follow up the matter with Assam to ensure that the work is not disturbed at any cost,” Gotmare said. Meanwhile, the district administration has also directed the Ri Bhoi police to ensure that the situation remains normal in the area.
The boundary dispute between the came to a boiling point recently after police from the neighbouring state stopped construction of an eri-farming building, which was dismantled in 2015, at Madan Umwang village in Ri Bhoi on July 29.
