Agartala: Students of Tripura aspiring to enter MBBS course will now have to appear in the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET), official sources said on Wednesday.
Health Minister Tapan Chakraborty said the state government has decided to run NEET instead of selecting medical students through state joint entrance test. “We have considered all aspects and decided to accept the guidelines of the Medical Council of India which suggests selection of candidates through NEET which would be mandatory for medical admission in the country from next academic session,” said Chakraborty.
However, he said, “we are yet to take decision whether the government will demand conducting NEET in vernacular languages”. NEET would be conducted centrally and 85 per cent seats of government-run medical colleges will be reserved for home state students while 15 percent would go to central pool. (UNI)
