Don Bosco Museum honours armed forces

SHILLONG: The Don Bosco Museum situated at Mawlai, honoured the armed forces on the eve of the 70th Independence Day at the museum on Monday.
The two batches comprising of 60 defence personnel from the 23rd Regiment of the Assam Rifles, known as the ‘Sentinels of the North East’ and a group from the 101 Assam Regiment of the Indian Army were present at the museum.
The personnel toured the museum admiring the different galleries housed which depicts the culture and tradition of the tribes and sub-tribes of the North east.
The battalion then went to the roof of the museum for ‘sky walk’ which offers visitors a bird’s eye view of the pine city. Some stopped to watch a march past rehearsal from the sky walk roof of the museum performed by a school students.
Fr. (Dr.) Manoj Churuliyil Abraham, the Director of Don Bosco Museum told reporters that the Museum is making efforts to preserve and protect the cultures of the North East.
In a press statement, Abraham said “On the occasion of our 70th Independence Day, we would like to honour the armed forces and thank them for their services to our Motherland and to North-East India in particular.”
He also expressed appreciation for the soldiers’ tireless and self-sacrificing service to the nation, to the protection of freedom and promotion of security and the maintenance of the sovereignty and integrity of the nation.
One of the guests of the 23 A.R. remarked “All my 18 years of military service has been here in the North East, and yet it is the first time that I got a chance to visit this beautiful museum. It is a nice feeling to see all of the North East under one roof and to see the region from another perspective.”
On behalf of his men, Subedar P.L. Gurung of the 101 A.R. thanked the Director, the assistant directors and other staff of Don Bosco Museum for the gesture of invitation and honour rendered to the armed forces.
