SHILLONG: The UDP-KHNAM merger is taking final shape after the leaders of the two parties held a meeting to discuss the modalities for the merger on Wednesday.

“We met to discuss the modalities of the merger,” KHNAM president Paul Lyngdoh informed here on Wednesday.

When asked if both the parties would be signing an agreement, he said that once the modalities are finalized they would definitely be signing a merger agreement.

“I will be able to elaborate more on this matter after the party general council meets on November 26,” the KHNAM president added.

While justifying the dissolution of his party, Lyngdoh said that taking into account the performance of the party in the 2003 and 2008 Assembly elections it is evident that KHNAM was not acceptable to the people.

Lyngdoh also stated that it is high time for Meghalaya to come up with a strong regional force.

“A fragmented regional formation cannot serve the purpose,” he observed.
