4 NSCN rebels arrested, camp busted in South Arunachal Pradesh

GUWAHATI: In three separate and swift operations carried out on specific information, Assam Rifles apprehended two hard core cadres of the Naga rebel group NSCN (IM), two cadres of the NSCN (K) and busted a hide out of the NSCN (R) on Sunday night in different places of South Arunachal Pradesh bordering Myanmar.

A defence source informed that, two NSCN-IM cadres identified as Nali Nyamtey and Rangmo Thakte were apprehended by Assam Rifles that acted swiftly on specific intelligence about their presence as well as attempts to terrorise people for extortion in Bera village. The Khonsa battalion of Assam Rifles swiftly the launched the operation and apprehended the duo with a pistol, live ammunition, extortion notes, extortion money amounting to Rs 25,000 and other incriminating evidence. Both the arrested NSCN-IM cadres are residents of Laju circle, district Tirap.

In a similar joint operation carried out by Jairampur Battalion of Assam Rifles and Jagun police based on specific intelligence about presence of insurgents at Phulbari village, NSCN-K cadres Rajapio Chankap Mossang and Wangnong Ranrang were apprehended with extortion letters and other incriminating evidence while serving extortion demand to a resident of Phulbari village.

In another operation, Assam Rifles acting on specific intelligence about presence of NSCN (R) cadres trying to extort people in Miao, launched an operation surrounding the hideout in the early hours of August 20. However, the insurgents managed to flee using cover of darkness and foliage. In subsequent search carried out during the day, the Assam Rifles men busted a hideout consisting of temporary hutments. The insurgents had been using this hideout as ad hoc base for operations for terrorizing and carrying out extortion in the neighboring villages.

The security forces have been carrying out aggressive operations in the South Arunachal areas bordering Myanmar where Naga rebels belonging to all the factions of the NSCN including NSCN-IM, NSCN-K and NSCN (R) are active creating nuisance for the people of the area.
