Tourists asked to carry trash bags

SHILLONG: The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills district has asked the tourists to carry garbage bags in their vehicles so that the small garbage items can be dumped at dustbins.
In a statement, the police said that all tourists visiting the tourist spots should carry the garbage bags in their vehicles where small garbage like wrappers, chip covers, and water bottles which can be dumped in appropriate dustbins.
The police also advised all citizens to keep order on public roads, streets and all the tourist spots in East Khasi Hills and desist from causing obstruction, injury or annoyance to passerby, or cause pollution and littering in any public roads and tourist spot here.
Police said that any person found violating the orders are liable to be arrested under section 102 of the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010 and on conviction by a Court of law and shall be liable to a fine of Rs 5000.
