SHILLONG: People’s Democratic Front (PDF) welcomed 12 sitting MDCs into its fold on Wednesday at a function held at Community Hall of Jaiaw Lum Pyllon on Wednesday.
The MDCs included veteran politician Hispreaching Son Shylla, LG Nongsiej, Morning Mawsor, Hadrian Lyngdoh, James Ban Basaiawmoit, Latiplang Kharkongor, Banteidor Lyngdoh, James Sylliang, Grace Mary Kharpuri, Arbinus Lyngdoh, Victor Rani and Blanding Warjri.
The general secretary of the party, Auspicious L Mawphlang took the opportunity to clarify on the ideology of the party which he said was based on Center-Left ideology.
It may be reminded that when the party was launched way back in the month of March, he was clueless on the ideology of the party.
“As for the ideology of the party it is the center- left ideology to give an opportunity to the voice of the public,” he said.
He added, “The party stands on the basis of bringing about a change in the system of governance and to protect and preserve the traditional customs.”
He added that the party will soon get the party symbol sometime in the month of September and the registration of the party with the Election Commission of India has already been done.
Pointing to the failure of the state government, he said that there were 29,000 local youth who are unemployed, a large number of farmers were facing crop failure.
“There are no policies be it in the education or mining sectors whereas some policies are in still in the drafting stage which is the reason why the development in the state is stagnant,” Mawphlang said.
“The aim of the party is to empower the people in order to bring a change to the state. To bring back governance to the people,” he added.
The 12 MDCs who joined the party also spoke on the occasion and each was optimistic that PDF would come to power in the state after the Assembly elections of 2018.
