SHILLONG: Co-chairman, Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GHSMC) met the Vice Chancellor (VC) of NEHU to apprise him of the demands to settle various grievances of NEHU, Tura campus on Friday.
In the memorandum to the VC, the GHSMC said that local students should be given preference in admission to all courses, appointment of teaching and non-teaching staff and introduction of new subjects.
They said that Central Educational Institution (CEI) Reservation in Admission Act, 2006 and later amended, have clearly ordered all universities to absorb 7.5% Scheduled Tribe (ST) students in admission and appointments.
The members alleged that the core idea of CIE Act, 2006 and Constitutional mandate is bleak for local Garo students and Garo Community as a whole, who have given its land for the purpose.
The members demanded that an administrative cell should also be set up in the Tura campus.
