SHILLONG: One of the pharmacies inside NEIGRIHMS is facing the public’s wrath after it denied free medicines to many patients.
Many aggrieved people have alleged that the free medical outlet located inside NEIGRIHMS rarely has any medicine. The outlet always directs people to procure medicines from another shop inside the campus near the parking lot.
The other pharmacy is more crowded than the free outlet and the affected people alleged that those who are manning the latter are creating “artificial scarcity of medicines”.
“Nexus between the authorities and a private pharmacy” is alleged behind this “illegal practices”.
Sources informed that when NEIGRIHMS started its operation, it did not have a pharmacy of its own and allowed a private pharmacy to operate inside the campus.
However, in due course of time when the health institute started its own free outlet, the pharmacy has not been stopped and is allowed to do business inside the health campus.
It is alleged that medicine stocks are available more in this pharmacy than the free outlet inside the building. Patients are forced to purchase medicines which they are supposed to get free from NEIGRIHMS’ own outlet.
Some patients have alleged that doctors often recommend this pharmacy inside the campus or to other shops operating outside the campus or in the city.
This practice is being carried out under the nose of the authorities.
A couple of doctors from the institute remained tightlipped on the matter.
