SHILLONG: More than 50 members of the National People’s Party (NPP) and Congress have joined the United Democratic Party (UDP) at Dobu under 41-Songsak constituency in East Garo Hills on Saturday.
“I am happy to see the mass move and warmly welcome all members to the party. I hope that more (party workers) join in the future. I hope we’ll win the 2018 elections against present MLA Nihim Shira and UDP Songsak is ready to face any kind of challenge,” Arun Marak, the joint secretary of UDP, said.
Marak, who is the UDP candidate from Songsak, said the party’s general meeting of Dobu area at Dobu playground witnessed the entrance of party workers from NPP and Congress.
He claimed that those who shifted allegiance were not satisfied with the functioning of their respective leaders.
