NONGPOH: Minister Ronnie V. Lyngdoh said on Friday field assistants should play a pivotal role in conserving soil and water resources.
Addressing a gathering at the annual passing out ceremony of the 44th Batch Field Assistant Training Course, the Soil and Water Resources minister said, “We have faced a seasonal change due to the destruction of environment. The trainees should play a crucial part to create mass awareness to preserve our environment to mitigate the effects of climate change.”
Forty-three trainees, including a woman, passed out from this institution after 11 months of rigorous training in various aspects of soil and water conservation and study of the latest environment laws.
Lyngdoh urged the young field assistants to work hard towards improving rural economy.
Former Additional Director of Soil and Water Conservation Department W. Rymbai, who was also present at the function stressed on the need for professionalism and perfection and “highly developed technology could help achieve this end”.
