SHILLONG: The Sohbar Youth Association (SYA) of Sohbar village, East Khasi Hills, has condemned IS Japang, Acting Sirdar of the Sohbar administrative unit, for making false allegations against the general secretary of the association, Dasharai Khongrain, through media and SYA opposed the allotment of land to Ramakrishna Mission by Sirdar.
The association criticised Japang’s baseless allegations, as well as those made by Synjuk ki Khun ka Elaka Sohbar and Synjuk ki samla Shnong Sohbar, that Khongrain had threatened the Acting Sirdar at his residence in Lower Mawprem.
SYA also reprimanded the Acting SIrdar for donating a 5.7 hectare land in Ri-Shnong Thmaw to Ramakrishna Mission which falls under the jurisdiction of the Dorbar Shnong Sohbar, without the consent of the Dorbar. The association criticised his act by saying that he has broken the customs and rules of the Dorbar which is the apex of rule in the community. “By making this decision on his own, the Acting Sirdar has trodden over the rights of the villagers by not consulting with the many organisations of the area”, P Ryngnga, president of SYA, said in a statement. The youth body also expressed their grievance with the Khasi Hills Autonomous District for not prioritising the various complaints that the association had sent to the council.
