Cyclonic storm damages houses and crops in Ri Bhoi

NONGPOH: Several houses and standing crops were partially damaged when the cyclonic storm accompanied by heavy rains hit several villages in Ri Bhoi district around 2 pm on Sunday.
A resident of Jowe village, Everwell Syiem informed that  the storm had not only damaged several houses in the village, but even standing crops like betel nut, bananas and other crops were also damaged causing severe loss to the villagers.
“Several trees had also fallen in some areas but fortunately there were no casualties reported”, he added.
Some of the most affected villages in this cyclonic storm include Jowe, Pahamjri, Marmain, Pahamrioh and other villages yet to be reported.
A big tree at Nongpoh Police station was uprooted and had fallen on a police car causing minor damages on Sunday.
There was no injuries reported.
