SHILLONG: Two organisations- Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO) and Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR) have petitioned the Centre to take action against senior government official H M Shangpliang for the alleged nexus with Congress.
The pressure groups also asked the Meghalaya Government to constitute an independent inquiry into the alleged abuse of official position and breach of service rules by the IAS officer.
In the petition submitted to the Chief Secretary here on Wednesday, the NGOs said that the officer has been found to have abused his official position in order to promote himself as a potential electoral candidate for Mawsynram constituency in the upcoming Assembly elections.
The organisations also expressed its surprise as to why the probe team did not call the NGOs who made the complaints to seek its response and hence it the probe report has become one sided.
Besides, the probe panel did not interview the people of Mawsynram regarding the various activities of Shangpliang in order to distribute schemes and ambulances in the constituency.
“We urge you to ensure that he is not rewarded for his illegal action by way of being granted VRS but that he should be summarily suspended and eventually dismissed from service and all his benefits withdrawn,” the NGOs added.
