NONGSTOIN: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) Nongstoin Circle has warned the MeECl division here not to force people to apply for Aadhaar card as mandatory when applying for new connections.
KSU, led by general secretary Franklin Syiemiong, visited the office following a complaint received from K Paiar who said that the office did not receive even his application because he did not have the Aadhaar Card even though he had all the necessary documents.
He also clarified that even the Supreme Court has not yet decided whether Aadhaar is mandatory for all.
The officer concerned clarified that the higher authorities of MeECL from Shillong have not ordered such a decision whereby Aadhaar is mandatory and to make such conclusions is wrong.
He also promised to cooperate with the KSU and reply to their demands adding that if the order from the higher authorities does come to the Nongstoin branch in the near future then he has no other option but to abide by these orders.
