SHILLONG: The state government has come under scanner for the purchase of flats and villas by the GAD for government accommodation.
In reply to RTI query by a pressure group, the department said that it had purchased 48 flats and villas in New Shillong Township in 2014.
32 budget flats and 16 villas covering 20,95,191 square feet were purchased by GAD at Mawdiangdiang.
The cost of each of the budget flats is Rs 21.70 lakh and the villas Rs 32.31 lakh, according to the reply to RTI question posed by CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing.
While the sale deed was executed between GAD and a private construction company M/S Syiem Associates in January 2014, a deed agreement was signed a year ago on August 23, 2013.
According to the reply, the then principal secretary PW Ingty decided to purchase the villas and flats whereas the urban affairs department paid the money.
The CSWO pointed out that the Government did not float advertisement and tenders, but instead directly purchased the villas and flats.
Kharshiing said that the GAD failed to provide several file notings related to the deal
