SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has directed the Khasi Hills Archery Sports Institute (KHASI) to revoke suspension of the Meghalaya Book Maker’s Welfare Union (MBMWU) with immediate effect and allow its archers to participate in games.
After going through the instant writ petition and hearing the submissions advanced by the counsels for the parties, the court observed that it has a very limited role.
“In fact, I am of the view that the court has no scope to pass any kind of order in the instant case. The jurisdiction of writ requires to be invoked with utmost caution and not on unnecessary grounds,” Justice SR Sen said on Tuesday as the court felt that the state government had already taken steps, through its order last June, to settle the matter.
The Commissioner of Taxes had issued the letter on June 23, 2016, asking KHASI to revoke the suspension of MBMWU with immediate effect and allow its shooters to take part in the game of arrow-shooting.
It was even stated that the direction was bounded upon KHASI as per Condition No. 11 of the state government’s License Permit.
“Therefore, I feel this court has nothing much to add and it will also not be wise to interfere. However, all the parties are directed to settle their dispute and comply with the impugned order,” the HC order said.
KHASI, a registered institute, has the licence to hold games of arrow shooting in Shillong. MBMWU, which is among the three other archery associations, had internal differences among its members since last January.
