SHILLONG: Emjay Secondary School, Laitkor celebrated “The Journey” of ten years on Friday at the school premises.

Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Congress MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh lauded the efforts of the school founders for having the school established in a place which is far from the hustle bustle of city life to bring education to the people in the sub-urban area.

She indicated that there is “tremendous pressure” on public representatives when admission to schools get open as most parents want their wards to be enrolled in St. Edmund’s School, St. Anthony’s School and Pine Mount School.

Lyngdoh assured the school headmistress that she would take the aspirations of the school to the Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma.

“I urge the teachers to be committed, to be qualified and it does not matter whether the salary is only Rs 5000-Rs 6000 as long as you have the desire to teach, mould and shape the students,” she said.

HSPDP Nongkrem MLA, Ardent Basaiawmoit has appreciated the vision of the founders who have found the heart to provide service to the people of Laitkor.

“I am proud that they can rub shoulders with other schools in the state and the country,” he said, adding that parents should not only eye schools in Shillong.

“Education cannot be limited to literacy but further into personality building of a child,” Basaiawmoit said.

Headmistress of the school, B. Wankhar informed that the school was started with only 20 students currently the school is elevated to the secondary level.

Tiny tots from Nursery and KG enthralled the audience with their “Gummy bear” and “Hey Mickey” dances respectively besides other dances were performed by the students.
