Garo Graduates’ Union meet

 TURA: The 41st Annual conference of the Garo Graduates’ Union took place in Tura at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Ringrey, with a release of its 26th Issue of “MIKAOA” which is the annual Magazine of the Garo Graduates’ Union. A book titled “Kinnaon Misila” containing poems written by S.T.Sangma and a book on Ramayan-ni katta were also released on the special occasion.

During the conference there was presentation of resource paper on the theme “Results of Garo Students in MBOSE Examination (H.S.L.C & H.S.S.L.C) and critical analysis” by Dr. Nikme C. Momin, Assistant Professor, NEHU Tura also done.

Dr. Nikme C. Momin while addressing the gathering said “The results in MBOSE H.S.L.C & H.S.S.L.C examinations for students of Garo hills is not in a good position in comparision with the other parts of the state; it may be due to negligence of the students in their studies or maybe due to lack of properly trained teachers in the schools,” She also added that the students who are studying in those government schools not having the required infrastructural facilities, teaching material, teacher quality facilities and professional development programs fare much lower so we have to developed those basic needs in the schools.”

The Chief Guest of the function Mr. L.Ch. Momin Local MDC and former chairman of GHADC speaking on the occasion said “In my view till date in most of the villages in Garo Hills one does not know the meaning of Graduate. They popularly know that person as B.A. pass.” He further said that most of the young Garo people are unable to speak and write the local language due to influence of other languages.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Mrs. Brucellish K. Sangma, former Director of Educational Research & Training, Meghalaya, S.T. Sangma and others.
