SHILLONG: Supporters of Mohendro Rapsang have sought Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s intervention in expediting inquiry into the alleged fund misuse by UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh.
Speaking to media persons after submitting the memorandum to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday, one of the supporters of Rapsang, Rishan Nongseij, said they had earlier taken up the matter with former chief secretary KS Kropha and even his successor Y Tsering.
“We were informed that the matter is being dealt with by the Political Department but till today, we are in dark
as to how far the matter has progressed,” Nongseij told reporters.
The supporters lamented that it was close to six months since the matter came to light and it should not take so long for the Government unless there is pressure from some quarters to sweep the issue under the carpet.
An FIR was lodged with the Chief Vigilance Commissioner in March following an RTI reply that said the West Shillong MLA misused public fund to the tune of Rs 55.80 lakh.
During the meeting, the chief minister told the delegation that he would look into the matter.
After the matter was brought to light earlier this year, the UDP MLA had filed a counter FIR asserting that the revelation of the RTI and the subsequent FIR filed were acts of “pure political vendetta” to tarnish his image.
