SHILLONG: The border dispute with Assam is unlikely to be solved before the upcoming Assembly polls though several promises were made by the state government in this regard.
The last meeting regarding the border dispute was in April when the chief ministers of both the states met in Guwahati.
However, the meeting decided to entrust the chief secretaries of both the states to hold further meetings aimed at arriving at a solution to the border problem, but the chief secretaries are yet to meet.
The state government had even written to Assam government officials to fix a date in September for the border meeting but in vain.
Meghalaya had in the past referred to the documents submitted to Assam regarding the 12 areas of difference.
Substantiating its claim, Meghalaya had submitted documents and maps on the 12 areas of difference — Upper Tarabari, Gizang Reserve Forest, Hahim, Langpih, Borduar, Boklapara, Nongwah-Matamur, Khanapara-Pillangkata, Desdemoreah,Block I and Block II, Khanduli-Psiar and Ratacherra.
